Designer Daniel Hale eloquently communicates a sense of place in this, his most recent architectural project, a home set on a quiet street in the heart of old St. Helena. A short stroll from Main Street's shops and restaurants, it artfully blends the old with the new. Captivating, handcrafted details add subtle sophistication and whimsy to an atmosphere of warmth, authenticity and country calm. Every design detail has been carefully thought through and expertly crafted from the copper clad entry doors to the wide plank chinquapin floors, box beam ceilings, limestone countertops, and custom wood cabinetry. The cabinetry was built on site, then embellished with carving and wood medallion detail, and finished with layers of wet color applied and rubbed to an exquisite patina. Each chandelier or sconce is a sculptural work, combining antiques and found objects with hand fabricated wood, metal or glass. The master bedroom is a statement in simple elegance with white walls meeting hand coved ceilings, board and batten closet doors with rope pulls, hand carved and etched oeil du boeuf window, and reading porch enrobed in natural cotton curtains. Carefully selected fixtures and appliances provide both form and function to complement Hale's work.
